The battle of Midway was primarily fought on June 4th, 1942. After the U.S. captured Japanese radio signals telling of an assault on the island. Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto of Japan had his course set to Midway with a navy fleet. He was determined to attack and destroy the U.S. aircraft carriers, along with the rest of their military forces stationed on the island. He didn't know that the U.S. knew they were coming.

The U.S. did know though, because of the radio interception. Admiral Chester W. Nimitz had an ambush waiting for the Japanese when they arrived. He sent out planes beforehand to scout the position of the Japanese fleet and maybe sink a few of their vessels. They had little trouble to begin with and actually sunk one or two ships, but soon Japanese Zero fighter planes took off of the aircraft carriers to intercept them. The battle got very intense. Then the U.S. sent out it's own naval forces to take out the planes, as well as some more of the enemy ships.
