World War Two was raging. Both sides had their own advantages and disadvantages. After the bombing of pearl harbor the U.S. joined the war, but because of the bombing Japan had a naval force that was superior to the United States. The U.S. then launched the Doolittle Raid on Japan, sending planes there and bombing them. This greatly raised American moral, and made Japan a lot more cautious, knowing that the U.S. had the ability to openly attack them. The U.S. also surprisingly held off the Japanese forces from taking Australia in the battle of the Coral Sea, although both sides did suffer heavy losses. This was also one of the first battles where aircraft carriers were used in combat. Just like Midway.
